My 11 questions
- What’s your next destination and why?
My next destination will be South Africa in August. We chose South Africa as we have never been to Africa before, going on a safari is on our bucket list and we have heard from so many people that it is a must do place to travel.
- What’s your favourite Country?
My favourite country would have to be China due to its amazing architecture, stunning natural beauty and lack of tourists always being a bonus. (Not to mention it was also where I met Charlie)
- What’s your worst travel experience?
My worst travel experience occurred whilst driving our campervan from Ayers Rock in Australia up to Alice Springs. After spending 3 days at Ayers rock we headed back to civilisation in our campervan, a short and leisurely 5 hour drive. 2 and a half hours into our journey in the middle of the desert I started to feel the steering wheel getting a little bit unstable, 10 minutes later as I was doing around 60mph there was a massive BANG and our front passenger side tyre had completely blown! No worries I thought, a slight inconvenience but I could easily change a tyre I’d done it a million times before! Except this time as different, I wasn’t used to changing a tyre in 40 degree heat and getting swamped but thousands of flies. I began to jack the van up and noticed our jack couldn’t lift the van up high enough so there I was, digging a hole with my bare hands so I could get the tyre off whilst Charlie was standing next to me trying to keep the flies off me whilst taking pictures. Done, I had managed to get the tyre off, easy from now on I thought, put the new tyre on and drive away. New tyre came out the back, put it on the van, tighten the nuts up, lower the jack and… Great! The spare was flat! We had no phone signal, no pump and no more tyres! Luckily for us a guy had drove past a while back and he told us he saw us struggle and his conscience brought him back to us. He took us and the spare tyre to the nearest garage (50 miles back in the direction he had come) pumped the tyre up and waited for us to fit it and followed us back to Alice Springs to make sure we were safe. Once we got to Alice Springs I got out the campervan to say thank you and offer him some money to say thanks, turns out he was a nurse and published author and instead of taking my money he offered us one of his books based on his time with the Australian aboriginal people and signed it for us!! They do say every cloud has a silver lining.
- How many countries have you visited?
14 since I started traveling in 2013.
- Airplane, bus or train?
My favourite way of traveling was definitely the sleeper trains in China as you could comfortably go to sleep and wake up in a new place! So for that reason I will choose train.
- Backpack or suitcase?
- Who or what inspired you to go traveling?
Besides watching nature documentaries for years and wishing I could be in all those places I had a friend go traveling about 2 years before me, seeing his pictures and listening to his stories made me crave traveling even more!
- Which language would you like to learn and why?
Spanish! As one day I would like to travel around South America and Spanish being one of the main languages would help me travel and chat to locals.
- Which country has the most amazing food?
For diversity and different styles of food I would choose Thailand (mmm Thai green curry) but as I am also a massive fan of all things meaty and fatty I would also choose America as I am a sucker for a nice cheeseburger or steak etc.
- Solo. Couple. Family or group travel?
Couple. Although starting off traveling with my best friend and always thinking it must be a nightmare to travel with your partner, there is no way I could travel anywhere now without Charlie my partner in crime! We both want to travel to the same countries and share the same experiences and as a team we work perfectly together whilst traveling.
- What would be your dream trip?
An all-expenses paid, 6 month trip around South America (offers are welcome)
